Fort Lauderdale Strikers CEO Sean Guerin today communicated the appointment of Luis Cuccatti (Loo-ees Koo-KA-chee) as managing director of the club. In his role, Cuccatti will oversee the strategic, operational and financial side of the Strikers. He will report directly to the ownership group.
“Cuccatti has been a key addition to our team,” said Guerin. “He has been instrumental in aligning our owners’ interests and securing some key partners. At the same time, we have made great strides on restructuring the technical and front office staff.”
After initially coming in as an advisor in September 2015, Cuccatti has already overseen a number of offseason initiatives, notably: formation of a board of directors; restructuring of the Soccer Department; transition to 12 month contracts for players and a year-round soccer operation; participation in the Florida Cup; and the formation of Fort Lauderdale Strikers U-23.
“The club had many accomplishments in 2015, but it’s no secret that we are also disappointed with some of the inefficiencies in our business this past season.,” said Cuccatti. “In response, the club has shifted focus and implemented a new mission and vision for the Strikers. We have already made big strides this offseason and will continue to do so.”
“We’re just getting started,” added Cuccatti. “In a short time we have already shifted the allocation of capital and prioritization of the soccer department. In the near future we will complement our progress with big developments in sponsorship, youth development, and infrastructure.”
Cuccatti’s background includes senior management and strategic roles with Fortune 500 companies IBM, Xerox, Motorola and certifications in sport management. His experience within the beautiful game comes as a former player and international advisor to soccer teams.
“Sean [Guerin] is an integral part of the Strikers and vital to the long-term success of this team and the ownership group,” said Cuccatti. ”As a longtime Fort Lauderdale native, and respected businessman, he has built and maintained relationships with our community leaders. With Sean’s leadership we will continue to build the Strikers into a global brand.”
The club has also restructured its front office.
Head Coach and General Manager Caio Zanardi will manage the Soccer Department, which covers all soccer-related activities for the first team, Strikers U-23, and the club’s plans for a youth development program. He will be supported in his day-to-day activities by Bruno Costa, the assistant general manager and head of scouting.
Sam Ambrose will lead the club’s sponsorship and broadcast initiatives, including the club’s relationships with radio stations, local television partner SFL-TV and international channels. Sean Young will manage the club’s operations, and maintenance of Lockhart Stadium. Steven Bernasconi will direct the club’s communications and media relations efforts.
